OpenHost was ranked towards the bottom of Page 1 of Google for numerous target keywords. The goal was to improve these positions, increase organic traffic and consequent conversions and revenue from organic search.
The challenge lay in that given a planned brand refresh and website rebuild there was no point investing time and resource into on-site SEO. In addition the site was hard coded which meant publishing additional content or pages was not an option.
This would be an off-site only campaign focused purely on link acquisition to improve rankings.
Competitive research highlighted that OpenHost had low domain authority, trust and citation flow metrics relative to competitors that were ranking well for the terms OpenHost wanted to target.
Given that there was not an option to use new content and or on-site tactics to target keyword rankings, the agreed strategy was to focus purely on building domain authority, topical trust and citation flow through link acquisition.
This required the placement of links on high value sites from a domain authority perspective, but more importantly to ensure that third party publisher sites would pass topical trust flow to improve Google’s perception of relevance to the keywords OpenHost wanted to target.
The primary tactic employed was article placements on high value domains (guest posting). In addition several tactics were employed to increase the value of acquired links.
The approach delivered a significant increase in targeted traffic with numerous top 5 and page 1 rankings for highly competitive head key phrases.
