This Policy describes how Umbrellar Limited t/a Synapse Search and any other company in the Umbrellar Group (as described in the General Terms and Conditions) (“Synapse”, “us”, “we”) collects and uses personal information.

Here are the types of information we gather from visitors to Synapse and our customers:
1.3 Automatic Information: Synapse uses “cookies.” Cookies receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with us. For example, our servers track the type of Web browser you are using, and the page to which you link from Synapse. We collect this information to offer better service to our customers and not to track your individual usage patterns.
We will use the personal information we collect, and may share such personal information with other entities (such as service providers) to:

3.1 Agents: We may engage other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include processing credit card payments, providing marketing assistance, providing customer services, sending postal mail and email to you, removing repetitive information from customer lists, and analysing data. These persons have access to personal information needed to perform their functions.
3.2 Service Providers: We may engage other companies and individuals to perform enhanced services on our behalf. For example, free electronic mail services.
3.3 Business Transfers: As we continue to develop our business, we might sell or buy businesses or their assets. In such transactions, customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets. Also, if Synapse, or all or substantially all of its assets were ever to be acquired, customer information will of course be one of the transferred assets.
3.4 Protection of Synapse and Others: We release account and other personal information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with law; enforce or apply our Terms and Conditions and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Synapse, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
4.1 We record all telephone calls answered in our contact centre. This helps us to identify ways that we can provide you with a better service. We record calls for the following purposes:
(a) for staff training, to improve our customer service and to ensure the information we provide to you is consistent and accurate
(b) for reporting on the different types of enquiries we receive
(c) to keep a record of your call, which may be needed to support any transactions that take place over the phone and/or if there is a dispute.
4.2 You can ask for access to the recording of your call by writing to us at Synapse, PO Box 302829, North Harbour, Auckland, 0751. You will need to clearly identify who you are and your contact details, and provide us the exact details of the date and time of your call, and the phone number you called from. Phone call recordings are stored securely for up to ten years and then destroyed.
From time to time, Synapse may use your personal information to contact you by electronic mail concerning your use of our services. These communications are intended to inform you of important information regarding your account, or about general services provided by Synapse. If you do not want to receive email from us regarding service updates, please click the “unsubscribe link” at the bottom of any email you receive from Synapse. We will, however, continue to send you email regarding your account administration and necessary information, such as renewal information.
6.1 You should be aware that information transmitted over the internet is inherently insecure. We will take all reasonable steps to securely store any personal information collected through Synapse. This information may (for the avoidance of doubt) be transferred and stored on servers anywhere worldwide.
6.2 Any personal information sent through Synapse is passed through a secure server using encryption technology. All personal information stored by us is protected through secure passwords, user log-ons and other security procedures.
6.3 In addition, our employees and the contractors who provide services related to our information systems are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information we hold. However, we will not be held responsible for any unauthorised access to your personal information.
6.4 You can play an important role in keeping your personal information secure by maintaining the confidentiality of any password and accounts used with Synapse. Please notify us immediately if there is any unauthorised use of your account or any other breach of security.
Synapse gives you access to certain information about you for the limited purpose of viewing and, in certain cases, updating that information. To view or change this information, log in to My Account.
When you update information, we usually keep a copy of the prior version for our records.
